African Energy Metals is led by a highly experienced team who offer world-class operational and technical management skills combined with extensive experience with building companies and creating shareholder value. Our management team is supported by a strong Advisory Board led by our Senior Consultant and Founder Kevin Torudag. Mr. Torudag has spent the last eight years focused on DRC projects and has visited the DRC over seventy-five times. Strong geology support is provided by Shu Zhan and Joe Sandberg, both having DRC work experience. Elia Mikhael has over ten years direct experience in the DRC and provided all infrastructure support for Ivanhoe’s Kamoa copper mine, one of the largest new copper mines in the world.
Mr. Torudag has over 30 years of capital market experience and demonstrated expertise in identifying and development resources and building teams necessary to push projects forward. Mr. Torudag has significant experience in managing and fostering local community relationships in the DRC which is critical to success in the DRC. Over the last 5 years, Mr. Torudag has spent approximately 50% of his time half of each month in the DRC where he has identified, and negotiated, and acquired multiple concessions which demonstrate resource potential. He has a strong network in both the political and business community in the DRC.
Mr. Zhan has 35 years’ experience in exploration geology and technical consultancy in mineral and petroleum industries, including significant experience in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He has worked in Asia, Australasia, and Africa engaging in the exploration of various commodities including gold, copper, cobalt, lead, zinc, nickel and iron ore. He is currently the senior consultant to a Chinese based cobalt processor which operates two copper-cobalt processing facilities in the DRC.
Joe Sandberg is a Professional Geologist and holds an MBA. He has over 45+ years’ experience in exploration on precious metals and copper porphyry systems. He was the President and CEO of a TSX-listed copper exploration company that was successfully sold to another public company. Under Canadian NI 43-101 regulations, he is defined as a Competent Person who can sign public reports (reporting mineral exploration results). Mr. Sandberg has recently consulted on copper cobalt exploration in the DRC.
Mr. Mikael is a Professional Engineer with 30 years’ experience in the civil Infrastructure and Mining industries on large scale mining and infrastructure developments.
He was a senior executive in major listed mining groups with more than 15 years’ experience in the mining industry on 1st tier mining developments in Africa. Elia has over ten years direct experience in the DRC and provided all infrastructure support for Ivanhoe’s Kamoa copper mine, one of the largest new copper mines in the world.
He has experience in international negotiations, joint ventures and PPP’s and development of major public infrastructure structures and operations.
Elia speaks four languages and worked and lived in three different continents. He was also directly involved in solar power operations in the DRC and will advise African Energy Metal’s carbon credit initiative.
